These impressive sculptures were created from driftwood by Alex Witcombe of Drifted Creations in the summer 2017. The sculptures were commissioned the developers of the Royal Bay Community.
The mammoth pair of sculptures are a natural fit for the site as the remains of mammoths have been found at the former gravel pit now being developed as the Royal Bay Community. The plaque notes the recovery of a large 1'x 1’ mammoth tooth in the early 1960s. Abundant driftwood is the ideal medium for the beachfront location.
Access by car is from the corner of Metchosen Rd and Latoria Blvd, down the hill to the beach. Access by foot is down the Perimeter Park trail or along the beach from the Esquimalt Lagoon.
