MW0526 - USGS 47M 1932 - California - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This benchmark is located about 8.5 miles by road south of Medicine Lake Guard Station near the junction of Road 43N17 with Road 56. The U.S. Geological Survey set the disk in the top of a 6 ft by 6 ft exposure of basalt about 430 feet southwest of the road junction and about 40 feet southeast of Road 56. The cap is stamped 47M and was set in 1932.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 8.2 MI SE FROM MEDICINE LAKE. 8.2 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG A GRADED ROAD FROM MEDICINE LAKE GUARD STATION, AT THE T JUNCTION OF A ROAD LEADING SOUTHWEST, IN THE TOP OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF A 6- BY 6-FOOT BOULDER PROJECTING 2 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, 429 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE GRADED ROAD, 40 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE ROAD LEADING SOUTHWEST, 40 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF A POINT OF A LAVA FLOW, AND ABOUT 8 FEET LOWER THAN THE ROAD.
