The 1960 "Stingarees" water tower in downtown Texas City, TX (across the High School) is a familiar feature to all local residents... It is also a US benchmark ("AW6028").

The water tank is a familiar feature to all local residents, and a prominent feature when driving around downtown Texas City. It is 135 feet tall, painted white, and has been used to acknowledge the nearby High School's scholastic achievements for quite some time. To date, the water tank is decorated with the following statement:
"Stingarees
State Champs
Football - Track and Field - Basketball"
Its lettering has slightly changed over the years, every time the High School achieves another State Championship.
