Thomas Adams was born at Worksop, Nottinghamshire on 5 February 1807. He was a lace manufacturer and philanthropist based in Nottingham.
The green plaque that honours him is located at the entrance to the Adams Building, on Stoney Street, in the Lace Market district of Nottingham. The building, which was formerly a lace showroom and warehouse, was designed one of the country’s leading architects, Nottingham-born Thomas Chambers Hine. It was built in 1855 and modelled on a grand country house in the Anglo-Italian style.
It is Grade II* listed and is now part of the City campus of New College Nottingham (it is not open to the public). (
