The well, originally known as Souter Well, stood on Ripon Road serving a small group of houses. The canopy was erected in 1859 and the whole moved to its present site in the 1970’s. The original fox’s head is in the Nidderdale Museum.

The plaque reads

“Fox’s Head Well

Originally erected in 1852 on Ripon Rd as Souter Well. It was moved to this site in the 1970s and is known as Fox’s Head Well.”
