William Chisholm built the mill in 1857. It was primarily a lumber business. In time, it also produced feed under the Purina name.

The water wheels were removed in the 1960's. At that time the feed mill was closed and the entire complex converted to lumber production using electric-powered saws and other machinery.

The mill remains in operation under the Chisholm name.
