This is a C12th church in what was a village, now grown into a small town. It must have been an impressive sight with its very tall tower when there were fields all round the village before the C19th growth.

This almost pristine cut mark is on the east face of the chancel at the south-east angle, 1.3m above ground and 19.526m above Newlyn datum. It was last verified and leveled in 1961.

There is a second mark on the church, a flush mark on the north face of the chancel, for which see a separate waymark.
