Located in the former 1890 Federal Courthouse and Post Office (operational until 1964), this museum chronicles the history of the city of Jefferson and Marion County, Texas from its early Native American beginnings to today.

Located in downtown Jefferson -- the county seat of Marion County, Texas -- the Jefferson Historical Museum is housed in a restored 1890 Federal Court House and U.S. Post Office which is listed in the US National Register of Historic Places. It contains 4 floors of exhibits and items chronicling the city's and surrounding region’s past.

Included among its collections are Civil War artifacts, antique furniture, tools and weapons, rare china, Caddo Indian relics and several of Sam Houston’s historic papers. The museum's intent is to showcase Jefferson's most prominent citizens, the daily lives of the town's working class, and the importance of railroads and steamboats to this particular region of Texas.
