Description of Memorial:
Large circular area of grass. At one end are three flag poles and a Memorial with a bas relief bronze plaque. At the top of the plaque is an eagle with spread wings. Below the wings on a ribbon are the words: Duty / Honor / Country Below the words are faces of men and women in various uniforms from various time periods. Below that is text. They answered the call, they volunteered - they grew tired, they persevered Some traveled far, some stayed near - some saw battle without showing fear Their sacrifices and challenges grew greater by the day, but these loyal men and women wouldn't have it any other way We honor and applaud them, accolades they deserve and we stand here humbly Reminded of the freedom they preserved. Remembering their Sacrifices Below that is another small plaque: Clarence and Janet Gerke Wayne and Claudia Giese and the staff of Memorial Oaks Chapel The back of the marker has text: "Show me the manner in which a nation cars for its dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals." Gladstone Below is another small plaque: Jerry and Doris Kohring and Rockdale Memorial Company. The center of the memorial circle is covered by a pavilion. The circle is walled and the wall is broken up with pillars with the different branches of the service indicated on them
