T. Texas Tyler (1916 - 1972) was a country music singer and songwriter who entertained from 1946 to 1954. In 1948 he had a best selling hit called "Deck of Cards" which reached #2 on the charts. It was a spoken-word hit single and one of many that became popular.
This monument is a flat granite slab mounted about a foot off the grass near the center of Janssen Park. It has a bronze relief portrayal of the singer and the words -
T. TEXAS TYLER / 1916 - 1972 / Born David Luke Myrick in Mena, he rose from humble beginnings to become a star of records, television, motion pictures. Was a veteran of World War II and will never be forgotten for his recording "Deck of Cards"
