The top right of the Interpretative Sign, titled "Floods are a natural part of a healthy river system", has a section on the local Gippsland Water Dragon. That section reads:

"Gippsland Water Dragon
Physignathus lesuerii howittii
(Tharawurt - indigenous name)
This semi-aquatic, arboreal lizard is known for dropping from branches of considerable height if disturbed. A powerful swimmer, it is extremely wary and can stay underwater for over an hour.
Size: Up to 800 mm.
Habitat: Waterside rocks, logs or overhanging branches. Juveniles favour low vegetation or accumulated flood debris.
Diet: A broad range of invertebrates (Including molluscs and crustaceans), small vertebrates (including fish, hatchling tortoise and small mammals) and vegetable matter."

The sign is sponsored and supported by many local organisations.
