Awenda Provincial Park is a large park located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay. At 2915 ha, it is one of the larger parks in south-western Ontario. It was opened in 1979.

The park is popular for camping and swimming. There are 333 regular campsites in 6 campgrounds, as well as group camping sites. There are 4 sandy beach areas, including a dedicated dog beach. There are 31 kms of hiking trail and a sheltered kettle lake for canoeing and fishing.

The Grand Opening plaque is mounted on a large stone, just outside the main gate. It reads:

The park was opened by James Auld, Member of Provincial Parliment (Progressive Conservative) who represented the area of Leeds from 1954 to 1981. He served in a number of Cabinet posts between 1962 and 1981, including Minister of Transport, Minister of Public Works, Minister of Environment, Minister of Colleges and Universities, Minister of Energy, and Minister of Natural Resources.

Mr Auld was born in Toronto in 1921. He served the Canadian Military as Captain in the Queen's Own Rifles and participated in the D-Day landings at Normandy during the Second World War.
