A simpler form of the pillory was the yoke or cangue in the Far East, a plank pierced with one to three holes, where the head and sometimes the two hands of the condemned were stuck so as to be able to walk.
But this use also made it possible to kill the latter by strangulation, keeping the cangue horizontally at a height higher than that of the condemned, whose feet were sometimes weighted with heavy stones.
