On the drive into Bemm River you will catch a "Welcome to Bemm River" sign, with an 'Aerial View' of the small community, as it is shown on their Welcome Sign.

Bemm River is a SMALL town, or rather, locality, on Sydenham Inlet in East Gippsland, over 400 km east of Melbourne. As it is so isolated, and surrounded by State Forests, there is a well structured 'Country Fire Authority' volunteer Fire Brigade (just down the road from this sign).
While some of the functions of a Post Office are performed at Bemm River Bait & Tackle shop, there had been an official Post Office in Bemm River from July 1911 to 1920, which reopened in 1933, only to close again in 1982 (Wiki: (

While the 2011 census gave the population of Bemm River as 287, that includes a bit of a radius around this locality, and as the local Caravan Park states on their website (
visit link) "The township boasts a nominal population of 70 residents."
'They' go on to 'advertise' the community thus: with a "General Store selling all your Bait and Tackle needs at sensible prices; a busy Community Centre offering a variety of support services and activities; Hire Boats; Bike Hire; Recreation Reserve providing Tennis Courts, Cricket Nets, Basketball/Netball Hoops & Play Equipment; and 2 Boat Ramps; [it also has] this caravan park along with numerous accommodation houses."
"TV reception is only available via satellite and mobile phone coverage is only supported by the Telstra network."
I had come on down to Bemm River Friday night/Saturday morning, to sleep over at the boat ramp to head out at sunrise for the geocache, (
visit link) "Bring Ya Rod # 8 - Bemm River", which has very tantalising rating of D2½/T5. As I had brought my plastic kayak along for the 4 week holiday I was keen to get as many "Boat Required" attribute caches as possible. This one being 720 km (ATCF) from home.
