In the northwest portion of Meridian, at the intersection of Hornor and 4th Street, this is a one-story school built by the WPA with locally quarried sand stone in 1935-1936. Today, Meridian is a ghost town, with a population of only about 40. The school was in use until 1970, when Meridian was consolidated into the Coyle School District. After that, the school building was used as a community hall, and in the mid 1980's as a church. Today it is vacant and falling into disrepair.
There are two entrances each on the north and on the south elevations. They are slightly recessed in projecting entrance bays which have stone arches and two sets of pilasters at the upper corners. The single wood doors are flanked with boarded up windows. Handicap ramps were added in later years. The high wall between the two front entrances has a row of stone arch work below the roof line. Single window units on the sides and rear are mostly boarded up. Immediately behind the school is a concrete storm cellar, protruding slightly above ground level.
