A blue US Government battle tablet at Craven's House explains the contributions of Wood's Brigade to the larger battle of Lookout Mountain, outside of Chattanooga TN.
This tablet is located near the Iowa Monument, and reads as follows:
"WOOD’S BRIGADE
Osterhaus’ division – Blair’s Corps
Brig. Gen. Charles R. Woods
Nov. 24, 1863
13th Illinois – Lieut Col. Frederick W. Partridge
3rd Missouri - Lieut Col. Theodore Meumann
12th Missouri - Col. Hugo W. Angelin
17th Missouri – Col. John F. Cramer
27th Missouri – Col. Thomas Curly
29th Missouri - Col. James Peckham, Maj. Philip H. Murphy
31st Missouri - Lieut Col.Samuel P. Simpson
32nd Missouri - Lieut Col. Henry C. Warmoth
76th Ohio – Maj. Willard Warner
This brigade, as the right of Osterhaus’ division covered the construction of a bridge over Lookout Creek a half-mile above the railroad crossing, and upon the appearance of Geary’s line on the western slope of Lookout, crossed the creek about 11.30 a.m. and moved over the nose of the mountain with its left on the River Road. This movement resulted in the capture of a large body of pickets opposite Williamson’s brigade at the lower bridge. The command advanced in the face of sharp firing until its left rested near the eastern foot opposite the mouth of Chattanooga Creek. The right of the line engaged the enemy with Geary’s and Crofts troops about Cravens, and continue to operate with them until the withdrawal of the Confederate forces from the mountain at 2 a.m. of the 25th."
