Near Lewiston, off Dickson Mounds Road, is the Dickson Mounds Museum, is a set of signs on the roof of the museum that points out locations of archaeological sites in the area.

The museum is located near the intersection of County Road 9 and Dickson Mound Road. From U.S. 24, go to Illinois Route 78 south, then to a bridge on the right, then follow the sign over the bridge to the museum (at the time of the visit the bridge was out - better to follow U.S. Route 24 to Lewiston, then follow the signs south to the museum).

The museum is part of the Illinois State Museum. The signs are accessed from the top floor of the museum and, thus, are available when the museum is open. There is no admission charge.

On the roof is a deck with a railing. the signs are installed on the railings. You have approximately an 180 degree view. These signs have text either about the flora and fauna visible or about settlements and their approximate period of occupancy. At the top are leader lines to points in the landscape and text that states what that site is. Many of these are the mounds and settlements that vary from nearby (Eveland) to Havana where the Rockwell Mound is located.
