Near Lewiston, along Illinois Route 78, is The Nature Conservancy's Emiquon Lakeside Observatory, which has a kiosk off the road about the area and the efforts to restore the area to a wetlands.

The turnoff is south of the intersection of Illinois Route 9 and a few miles south of the intersection U.S. Route 24. It is on the east side of the road. There is a sign at the road and further down is a sign with "The Nature Conservancy" below the name, "Emiquon Lakeside Observatory." The kiosk is on the east side, right by the parking lot.

The kiosk has a long panel titled, "A Place that Sustains Life." On it are pictures and text about the fact that artifacts have been found that point to thousands of years of human activity. Topics covered include: "Creation of a Natural Wonder," "Native Americans," "European Exploration and Settlement," "Recreation, Alteration, and Conflict," and "Farming and Restoration."
