A bronze tablet on a pink granite monument commemorates the founding of the First Baptist Church at this location in 1852. Within a few decades the First Baptist Church of decided to move to another site and the land was sold to Hamilton County for use as the courthouse site.

In 1952, the Centennial of the founding of First Baptist Church, parishioners returned to the site of their first home and dedicated this handsome monument which reads as follows:

"To commemorate the founding of
THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
Chattanooga, Tennessee
on this site
May 29, 1852

"Things seen are temporal"
measured in years by man
only God measures eternity

Dedicated May 29, 1952."
