Das Gipfeltreffen ist eine öffentliche und dauernde Installation auf der Insel Lindau am Bodensee.

Wolfgang Lettl (1919 - 2008), war ein deutscher surrealistischer Maler. Das GIPFELTREFFEN wurde von ihm 1991 gemalt und sein Sohn Florian Lettl hat es 1994/95 modelliert und 2004 in Aluminium gegossen.

Lettl sagt selber über sein Kunstwerk:

= Ein Gipfel ist der höchste Punkt eines Berges und bietet als solcher nur für einen Menschen Platz, der nächste muss schon weiter unten stehen.
Was passiert aber, wenn zwei mit gleicher Last gleichzeitig aus verschiedenen Richtungen auf den Gipfel zustreben? Den Kopf unter der Last beugen, so dass
man den anderen nicht sieht, sondern nur die eigenen Füße, geht nur eine Zeitlang.
Wenn man ganz nahe aneinanderkommt schepperts entweder oder es kracht, je nachdem, ob man sich zu einem Gipfelgespräch verständigt oder auf sturer Rechthaberei beharrt.

Dieser spannende Augenblick, wie er sich im privaten Leben wie in der großen Politik immer wieder ergibt, hat mich zur künstlerischen Darstellung gereizt =

Die Skulptur befindet sich am westlichen Ende der Insel, Zwiscchen der Pulverschanze und dem Gebäude der Volkshochschule.

The summit is a public and permanent installation on the island of Lindau at Lake Constance.

Wolfgang Lettl (1919 - 2008), was a German surrealist painter. The GIPFELTREFFEN was painted by him in 1991 and his son Florian Lettl modeled it in 1994/95 and cast in aluminum in 2004.

Lettl himself says of his work of art:

= A summit is the highest point of a mountain and as such offers space for only one person, the next must be already lower.
But what happens when two of the same load are simultaneously moving towards the summit from different directions? Bend the head under the load so that
one does not see the other, but only one's own feet, goes only a time.
If one comes close to each other Schepperts either or it kracht,
depending on whether one is made aware of a summit, or insists on stubbornness.

The sculpture is located at the western end of the island, between the Powverschanze and the building of the Volkshochschule.
