At the beginning of the 20th century Bechyne was connected with Tábor by the railway but the terminal station was on the left bank of the Lužnice river. Since the twenties the need of the connection of both banks of the river had become more and more urgent because the old bridge in the village of Zárecí with two-metre wide road and a bearing capacity of thirty quitals had not complied with the increasing transport and industrial requirments.
The bridge is made of reinforced concrete, with a height over the river below of less than 60 meters. The total length is 190.50 m, and the width is 8.9 m. The main arc has a span of 90 m and a rise of 38 m, and a subsidiary field of 4 × 13.5 m and 3 × 15.5 m. The main field is made up of two arched passports connected by bracings. The distance of the arches at the top is 6 m, at the base 8.25 m, and the peak height of the columns is 28 m.
