As LDS communities became settled and developed, meeting houses were constructed both as places of worship and as community centers. Some were of simple timber construction while others were architectural masterpieces in frontier communities. The Bountiful Tabernacle was constructed in 1857. Of the original 100 built only 50 remain and this is the oldest. It predates the tabernacle on the temple grounds in Salt Lake City, Utah. This building remains the home of the Bountiful First Ward.
