Near Lewiston, along Illinois Route 78, is the Emiquon Nature Preserve, which has a turnout that provides a view of the newly restored Lake Thompson.
The turnoff is south of the intersection of Illinos Route 9 and a few miles south of the intersection U.S. Route 24. It is on the east side of the road. There is a sign at the road and further down is a sign with "The Nature Conservancy" below the name, "Emiquon Lakeside Observatory."
The area has several places to walk and get a view. There is a boat ramp at the southernmost part. There is a kiosk by a pier. And there is a boardwalk to an observation deck. There are nature signs at both the kiosk and at the observation deck.
Views are mostly of the newly restored Lake Thompson, but views of the Illinois River bluffs are also visible. The lake is an attempt to reclaim land back to a lake.
