Abbaye de Bénédictins fondée vers 644 par saint Fursy et Archinoald, maire du palais de Clovis II.
Détruite par les Normands elle fut restaurée par Herbert III, comte de Vermandois, qui y fut inhumé en 993.
Elle adhéra à la réforme de Saint-Maur en 1641. Fermée à la Révolution et vendue comme bien national en 1802.
L'abbaye est devenue hôtel de ville depuis 1842, l'abbatiale est devenue église paroissiale sous le vocable de Notre-Dame-des-Ardents. -
On trouve parfois cette abbaye sous le nom de Saint-Fursy, qui est en fait le nom d'une des trois paroisses de Lagny.
