This WWII memorial is combined with a WWI memorial. It was erected on the site of an old church in Monakam. The church, "To the Holy Cross", used to hold the Monakam Alterpiece and remained until a little after 1802 when the new church was built.
"On this place where curretnly stands a memorial, stood the chapel 'To the Holy Cross', which probably fell victim to the pickaxe after 1802. For centuries the famous Monakamer Altarpiece was housed."
