Near Lewiston, within the Emiquon Nature Preserve, is a network of paths that include a pier and a boardwalk that extends into Thompson Lake.

The preserve is off Illinois Route 78, and is a few miles south of the intersection with U.S. 24 and near the intersection with Route 9.

The paths are along the lake shore and provide nice views of the lake and the birds out there. There is a causeway that extends from the shore and has an observation deck on it and a short pier extending from it. There is also a boardwalk about a couple feet off the lake surface extending from the shore to the causeway and observation deck. The boardwalk is about 450 ft long and the pier to the south is about 150 ft an the pier off the causeway is about 100 ft. long, making 700 ft of boardwalk.

Emiquon Nature Preserve is run by The Nature Conservancy and is surrounded by the Emiquon U.S. National Refuge. The Nature Conservancy is coordinating efforts to restore the area from lowland farms back to water and wetland. There are markers at the kiosk that relate the story and describe the flora and fauna here.
Approximate boardwalk length (feet): 700 ft

What is the boardwalk over?:
Lake Thompson on its west shore.
