This sculpture made of two type of stones was presented to Iceland from Latvia, because Iceland was the first country to recognize Latvia's regained independence in 1991. There is a citation of famous Latvian poet Janis Rainis on the marker.

The marker reads:

"Við erum smáþjóð. Við munum verða eins stór og hugur okkar stendir til." Rainis

"We are a small nation. We shall be as great as is our will." Rainis

"From the people of Latvia to the people of Iceland. For the recognition of indepencence."
