"Oorderen is a disappeared Belgian polder village north of Antwerp. It was first mentioned in 1116 and was annexed by the city of Antwerp in 1929 for the port expansion. Oorderen was connected with the neighboring polder village Wilmarsdonk by the Oordenschedijk. The village was demolished in 1965 to make way for the port of Antwerp.
The village had an expatriate known as Oorder Dam (abbreviated Oordam - van Oorderen + dam) in 1583 on the west side to the Scheldt, but drowned during the 1980s at the flood of 1583 and was no longer built.
At the place of the former village came Plant 2 of General Motors, the later Opel Antwerp. Another major part of the former municipality is occupied by the Antwerp-Noord railway deployment station with Antwerp-Port Railway Station.
The inhabitants of Oorderen were also known as "carotenbuters" under their nickname.
The territory of the former municipality of Oorderen (together with that of the former municipalities of Oosterweel and Wilmarsdonk) under the zip code 2030 now forms part of the district of Antwerp.
Only one building remains in the village, namely the impressive barn of the Berghoeve. It is currently found in Bokrijk."
