Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo is a beautiful area, with rolling land and many large trees. There are currently 7100 burials here. Along the north drive toward the east side of the cemetery, this rock chapel shows the beauty of WPA workmanship.
The chapel is small, approximately 12 x 14 ft. It has a steep gabled roof and a small steeple. The walls are constructed of native sand stone. The roof is currently covered with metal siding. There are five windows (2 on each side and one in the front), which are wood framed double hung, with diagonally framed panes. The single door is wood under a gabled porch.
The chapel is still in use, and has been named "Mack Wood Chapel" Mack Wood (9/16/1875-11/21/1952) is buried in this cemetery. Nearby the chapel is a rock pyramid about 5 ft. high with a plaque reading "Mt. Olivet Cemetery 1937". A WPA bronze plaque is mounted on the south entrance to the cemetery.
