Rudyard Lake is a two and a half mile long artificial lake that was created between 1797 and 1800 as a reservoir.
It is popular location offering walking, boating, sailing and fishing, a converted boat house as a visitor centre and the Rudyard Miniature Steam Railway that runs along the eastern side of the lake. (visit link)

Rudyard Lake was developed by the North Staffordshire Railway to offer days out to the workers of the Midlands and North West.

The railway is 10.25 inch gauge which is equivalent to half size Narrow Gauge. The railway uses coal fired steam engines on most of its trains which run whatever the weather and all have covered coaches. New since 2016 is the incorporation of the Isle of Mull Railway engines Frances, Victoria and Glen Auldyn into the fleet.

The first railway on this site opened in 1978, and was a two year affair, using a Coleby Simkins L&M tank, which is now at Bickington Steam Railway. In 1985, the current line opened to the public, running on the trackbed of the North Strafford to Leek Branch. A year later, the line was extended to 700 yards, running to Dam station. Here, there is now a shelter and footbridge over Rudyard Lake to the Lakes visitor centre and trains now run to Hunthouse Wood, where run round takes place. Source: (visit link)
