The Inquest into her death was reported in The Daily Telegraph, Sydney on 14 July 1886 as:

A Fatal Fall
Lithgow Tuesday

A sad accident occurred last night to a girl 12 years of age named Phillis Colley, daughter of John Colley, overseer of the pottery works. She fell down a cutting opposite the station masters residence, a depth of forty feet and was killed instantaneously. At a coronial inquiry today a verdict of accidental death was returned.
