The Idabel Armory is a one-story native stone building. The central drill floor and rifle range area (86 x 124 ft.) has a barrel roof. Two flat-roofed wings (30 x 92 ft.) flank the center section, which contain offices and also have vehicle entrances. The construction uses untooled native sandstone, in a random, uncoursed style. The roof line has a stepped parapet. The windows are multi-paned casement, with some of them being covered with metal siding.
The pedestrian entrances on the east and west sides are recessed in projecting stone bays. The west double doors are metal; the east are wood. The vehicle entrances are on the north side facing Washington Street. A centered overhead door opens into the drill hall area. There are two overhead doors on either wing.
A concrete cornerstone reads: "State Armory / Built by Works Progress Administration / 1936 / W.S. Key / State Administrator".
