The lake is located precisely on the Continental Divide and the snow melt water drains in two directions:
To the west, a small creek feeds the Firehole River which flows into the Missouri which flows into the Mississippi which flows into the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.
To the east, another small creek feed the Lewis River, which feeds the Snake river which flows into the Columbia River which ends at the Pacific Ocean.
An interpretive sign at this location describes the geography of the lake and the rivers it drains into.
A large "Continental Divide" marker is located just a few feet away at the road crossing Craig Pass. |
