The adjourned inquest into his death was reported by The Daily Telegraph, Sydney on 19 September 1911 as:

Accidental death.
Lithgow, Monday.

The adjourned Inquest on the body of Victor Lloyd Prentice was held in the Court-house this morning, before the District Coroner (Mr. E. P. Richards).

The coroner found that deceased met his death on the Government railway line on the 11th inst. from the effects of injuries accidentally received from being run over by a passing locomotive.
