GUARD'S SHOCKING DEATH
KILLED BY ENGINE
WALLERAWANG FATALITY
William A. Ryan (44), a railway guard living at Rylstone, was fatally injured when struck by a shunting engine in the Wallerawang railway yards shortly after 6 o'clock last night. Both his feet and the left hand were severed, and he died shortly afterwards.
There were no eyewitnesses. It is believed, however, that at the time Ryan was standing near his train, taking loading particulars prior to its departure for Mudgee. Obviously, he did not see the shunting engine approaching.
