A MOTORING TRAGEDY

CAR TURNS A SOMERSAULT.

Two Men Killed and Five Injured.

In a tragic motor car accident at Good Forest, about a mile on the Jenolan Caves side of the turn-off to Mount Victoria, Patrick James Fitzgerald, of Lithgow, 40, married, the father of ten children, and Duncan Forbes, of Lithgow, 54, were killed.

The accident happened through the car trying to avoid a motor cycle. At a blind corner on the narrow road the steering gear of the car did not immediately respond, with the result that the car dashed into the cycle smashing into it and turning a complete somersault. All the occupants of the car were thrown out.

Fitzgerald and Forbes, both of whom occupied outside seats in the rear were instantly killed.

The headstone is heavily stained but reads:

In loving memory of my dear husband & our father
Patrick James Fitzgerald
Who was accidentally killed
Nov. 2nd 1924
Aged 45 years.
