This quite thin, 4 metre tall, cemented stone cairn commemorates the expedition of Angus McMillan (1810-1865) through the Gippsland region in 1840.

From the Monuments Australia website, (visit link) this monument Cairn was dedicated, Tuesday, 5th April, 1927, by Sir James Barrett, the under-secretary for Lands.

The white marble plaque reads:
"Angus McMillan
Explorer
Passed here 14th April 1840
Unveiled 5th April 1927."

Born in Scotland in 1810, he emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1838, where he soon got a job trying to find suitable and reliable pasture for Captain Lachlan Macalister.
