This white painted pillar is situated on the summit area of Kinnoull Hill at 222 metres overlooking the River Tay and Perth. The wooded hill is the western extremity of the Sidlaw Hills, its heights being abruptly curtailed to the west and south by the river. The pillar shares the summit with an orientation table and to the east is a folly in the shape of a round tower, which along with the rocky cliffs to the south, make the hill distinctive when seen from the A90 dual-carriageway which runs between Perth and Dundee under the steep south flank. The pillar is well white-washed which disguises a large crack towards its base.
STEEPNESS: Impregnable to the south, but less so from other directions. The northern flank is the least steep climb to the summit.
TERRAIN: There are many paths leading up the hill through the trees, all in reasonable condition.
ACCESSIBILITY: A popular walk from the centre of Perth around a mile and a half away, but there are access points a lot closer from car parks to the north in the Corsiehill area.
NAVIGATION: The maze of paths all over the hill can be confusing, but colour coded signposts make finding the summit easy.
DANGER: An easy climb through the woods, but keep away from the unfenced cliff edge which is only a few yards south of the pillar.
