His death was reported by The Labor Daily on 8 April 1936 as:

Mysterious Drowning Of Youth
Goulburn Tuesday.

Peculiar circumstances surround the drowning of Ronald Waldron, 18, in the Mulwarre River, near Horns Bridge late last night. According to a statement to the police by Percy Nelson, he and a girl and Waldron drove to a spot near the bridge. He & the girl went for a walk. Hearing cries for help, Nelson rushed back and found Waldron hanging by his hands from a girder underneath the bridge.

Waldron, unable to retain his grip and falling in the water, struck out for the bank but sank when only six yards away, just failing to reach a tent fly thrown to him by Nelson.
