The Australian War Memorial (website below) records that he served as a Private with the 45th Australian Infantry Battalion. He enlisted on 13 July 1915 & died in Belgium on 11 October 1917.

His headstone is worded:

Died of wounds in Belgium, 11 October 1917,
In his 25th Year.
