At the corner of 9th and Church Streets, at the rear of the First Baptist Church, stands this masonry monument known as the Ebenezer Monument. "Ebenezer" refers to a story in 1 Samuel 7:12. In honor to God and His help, Samuel erected a monument which he called his Ebenezer, which meant "Hither to hath the Lord helped us."

On the side of the monument, a concrete panel reads: VAULT / This vault to be opened June, 14, 1986, and other names then living added to the list of names now in vault and put back into value for another fifty years. The vault was opened in 1986 and is due to be re-opened in 2036.

In 1936, after a decade-long fight against the establishment of the Commonwealth College, a Communist-leaning facility, the push back from citizens finally caused the closing of the school and its movement. The pastor of the First Baptist Church at that time was influential in this cause. The church placed this Ebenezer to honor the success of the mission.

This is a stone and concrete pillar approximately 12 feet high and 5 ft. wide at its base. The pillar narrows as it ascends, and is capped by a concrete square, under which are concrete panels on each of the four sides. Three of the panels are engraved:

- Ebenezer of First Baptist Church / "Hither Hath the Lord Helped Us - 1 Samuel 7:12 / Sunday, June 14, 1936.

- Arkansas First Centennial / "Have faith in God" Mark 11:22 / 1836 to 1936 / Mena, Polk County, Arkansas

- This monument contains the names and a short history of many of the citizens of Mena, Polk County, and the United States.
