Wikipedia reads:
The castle ruins Baldenau is one of the few water castles in the Hunsrück, which is situated in a high valley. The moat of the ruin on the northern edge of the Idar Forest at a height of 465 meters is fed by the upper course of the Dhron. The ruin, idyllically located in a marshy area and rarely visited, is always open to the public.
To the Baldenau also belongs the Stumpfe tower, which was built above Hinzerath on the then Roman road. Due to the location on the Bergrücken, the approaching dangers could be detected at an early stage and reported to the castle.
