A marker on the wall reads:

The Historic Bell
From 1859 to 1909 called Baptist
of Columbus to worship in old
concrete church. On November 11th,
1918, its peal announced end of
World War I, and gathered citizens
to a midnight Thanksgiving
service. During World War II, it
rang daily at 6 p.m., reminding
the town to pray for peace.
