In 2000, Lindsborg decided to cast the traditional Dala shape in large fiberglass forms – an idea patterned after Chicago’s cows on Michigan avenue. Local people and folks with Lindsborg connections sponsor each Wild Dala. Each is unconventionally decorated by one on the towns many local artists. Each new horse is feted in a public unveiling party complete with street theater and parody songs sung by the crowd.

Located at the International School of Chess 106 S Main.
The Good Knight Dala stands in front of the chess school. Have you ever wondered why the k is silent in knight? Back when people spoke Middle English they did pronounce the k. As the years went by people decided k-night was awkward. We kept the spelling though. An evening sky view with three moons is painted on the horse’s back. A nod to the meaning of night without the k. Also a Muslim symbol. Muslims introduced chess to Europe and Russia. The origin of chess is unknown. Some historians believe it came from Indian and others China.
The chess school was started by a Bethany College teacher from Russia. The school sponsored visits from the former Soviet Union leader, Mikhail Gorbachev and chess champion Anatoly Karpov.
