In 2000, Lindsborg decided to cast the traditional Dala shape in large fiberglass forms – an idea patterned after Chicago’s cows on Michigan avenue. Local people and folks with Lindsborg connections sponsor each Wild Dala. Each is unconventionally decorated by one on the towns many local artists. Each new horse is feted in a public unveiling party complete with street theater and parody songs sung by the crowd.

The Painting and Design Class of Smoky Valley High School will persist in your memory for its clever send up of surrealist artist Salvador Dali.
This is the Salvador Dala horse which is play on the surrealist artist, Salvador Dalí. His face is painted on the front of the horse. He preferred to wear his mustache curled up like a villain who ties damsels to train tracks. He also liked to wear a cape. Clearly he wanted to look dramatic. Be sure to look all around the horse to get an idea how surrealist art differs from other types. Much of the painting on the horse you see reflects his 1931 work the Persistence of Memory. That work showed the first time he painted melting watches. Art critics believe it symbolizes time is not rigid. Salvador said the idea came to him while looking at melted cheese on an August day. In 1934, Salvador successfully showed his work in New York including Persistence of Memory.
Sponsored by the Hodges Family in memory of former school board member Dr. Melissa Ann Hodges.
