His death was reported in the Goulburn Evening Post on 24 October 1945 wherein it was stated:

Death of Goulburn Boy

Desmond Stuart Macgraw... was electrocuted on the roof of the premises next to his home, at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Apparently, with two boy companions, he was removing eggs from a sparrow's nest under the eave at the corner of the building, when he came in contact with electric supply wires and fell across them.

Mr. T. Wilson, reformatory warder, who was passing by, saw the lad, used his coat as an insulator and 'managed to release him. He was' unconscious, and answering, a call with commendable promptitude, ambulance officials applied artificial respiration and administered the CO2 content of two small cylinders.

The patient was then taken to the District Hospital and there placed in an iron lung for an hour and a half. Unfortunately all efforts proved unsuccessful, and life was pronounced extinct by the Government Medical Officer.
