The weathervane is a steam train constructed of black metal. It is mounted on a post attached to a wooden fenced enclosure, next to the locomotive shed at platform 2 of the Rudyard Steam Railway Station.
The railway is 10.25 inch gauge which is equivalent to half size Narrow Gauge. The railway uses coal fired steam engines on most of its trains which run whatever the weather and all have covered coaches. New since 2016 is the incorporation of the Isle of Mull Railway engines Frances, Victoria and Glen Auldyn into the fleet.
