Kendleton was originally a
large plantation area of land in the
western section of Fort Bend County.
During the Reconstruction Era, free
Negroes from Colorado and Washington
counties developed a colony of several
hundred acre plots having relocated
several times, the community finally
settled here.

For their outstanding achievement
and affluence, this plaque is dedicated to
the Black Citizenry of Kendleton.

Bicentennial year April 25, 1976.
