The Henry Lassen house was vacant at the time it was placed on the National Register in 2008, but it appears to be occupied at this time. The home is an eye-opener and sits in a residential area of much more modest homes.
The original house was built pre-1895, with the Lassen family buying it in 1898. During the period between 1901 and 1904, the Lassens added a third floor, and constructed the elaborate 2-story wrap-around porch which greatly enhanced the look of the home. It was a residence until 1943, when it became an apartment house for a period of time.
This is a three-story clapboard house with a tall brick foundation. The roof is flat with a raised parapet. Many of the wood-framed windows are double hung with sidelights. The front entrance which faces S. Hoff is accessed by six concrete steps. The large porch is covered and supported by twelve Ionic columns. The roof of the porch is a balcony for the third floor rooms. A full and complete description of this exterior and interior of this home can be found on the National Register nomination link below.
Henry Lassen was a very influential mover and shaker in the founding of El Reno. As owner of Canadian Mill and Elevator Company, he quietly funded many projects and buildings in the town of El Reno, and was influential in bringing one of the railroads to town, as well as the building of the Carnegie Library. He was mayor of El Reno from 1905-1907.
