Bei einem gemeinsamen Spaziergang auf dem Baumberger Höhenweg kam dem Bischof von Münster, Dr. Reinhard Lettmann (1933-2013) und dem Pastor von Havixbeck, Pfarrer Albert Wöstmann, die Idee: An diesem Aussichtspunkt in die Weite der münsterländischen Parklandschaft einen Aufruf zum Frieden zu setzen, eine Kapelle zu Ehren des Bruder Klaus - des Einsiedlers, Mystikers und Friedensstifters Nikolaus von der Flüe (1417-1487). Jahre später zur 850-Jahr Feier der Pfarrgemeinde St. Dionysus setzte Pfarrer Albert Wöstmann die Idee um. Mit den notwendigen Sach- und Geldspenden von Mitgliedern seiner Pfarrgemeinde für den Bau der Kapelle ausgestattet konnte er für diesen landschaftstypischen, bodenständigen Fachwerkbau am Gedenktag des Heiligen am 21. März 1987, den Grundtstein setzen. Den Mittelpunkt der Giebelwand bildet ein Wagenrad. Es abstrahiert das "Radbild" des Bruder Klaus als Meditationshilfe im Gebet, als Symsbol für den Zusammenhang aller Dinge mit Gott: Das Leben aus der Mitte! Darunter steht die vom Rheinenser Bildhauer Joseph Krautwald (1914-2003) gestaltete Skulptur des schlichten, aufrichtigen, geradlinigen Bruder Klaus, der uns zum Frieden mahnt: Friede ist alleweg in Gott - denn Gott ist der Friede. Den großen Flusstein an der Nordwand hat Pfarrer Albert Wöstmann bei einer seiner zahlreichen Wallfahrten nach Flüeli in der Ranftschlucht, dem Rückzugsort des Heiligen, geborgen und zur Kapelle auf dem Baumberg getragen.

During a walk along the Baumberger Höhenweg, the bishop of Münster, Dr. Reinhard Lettmann (1933-2013) and the pastor of Havixbeck, pastor Albert Wöstmann, had an idea: to call for peace at this viewpoint in the expanse of the Münsterland with a chapel in honor of Brother Klaus - the hermit, mystic and peacemaker Nikolaus von der Flüe (1417-1487).
